Anselm of Canterbury
Almighty God, whose servant Anselm helped your church to understand its faith in your eternal Being, perfect justice, and saving mercy: Provide your church in all ages with devout and learned scholars and teachers, that we may be able to give a reason for the hope that is in us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
This class will meet on most Wednesdays through April, studying closely the central pages of Robert W. Jenson’s Systematic Theology, volume one. In these pages, Jenson develops a systematic account of the Trinity in modern terms. ————– This class is particularly for those who want to wrestle with high-octane, serious theology; it will provide a worthy alternative, in some respects, to Thomas Aquinas. ———————- Participants will be expected to read about 10-15 pages each week outside of class. But it is not expected that participants will understand the reading! In class, we will work through challenges of the reading, in some cases going sentence by sentence. ————— For January 13, please attempt pages 63-74.
