Please listen to the Rector’s Weekly Message and John Scott’s Music Notes for more about Pentecost.
__________
Unlike recent years, this year at 11am we will have a Solemn Eucharist for Pentacost instead of the Pentecost Procession. The Pentecost Procession will be at 4pm.
The Solemn Eucharist will begin with the Opening Acclamation and then a long opening procession to two hymns, during which the choir and clergy will wind through the pews, led by a thurifer.
We will also have incense at the Gloria, the Gospel Procession and the Offertory.
The Sermon will be given by The Reverend Dr. John Polkinghorne, KBE, FRS of Queens’ College, Cambridge. John Polkinghorne was founding president of the International Society for Science and Religion and in 2002 was awarded the Templeton Prize. He is the author of numerous books, including the Gifford Lectures, The Faith of a Physicist, and most recently Theology in the Context of Science.
[Reverend Dr. Polkinghorne gave a free public lecture called “Can a Scientist Pray” at Saint Thomas on Thursday, May 20 at 6:30pm, which is webcast here.]
