John Polkinghorne is a world-renowned physicist-theologian, a priest of the Church of England, winner of the Templeton Prize (2002) for his work in science and theology, and a prolific author. His latest book, Theology in the Context of Science, explores the contributions that 20th-century science has to offer Christian theology.

Participants in this seminar should obtain the book and read along according to the following schedule:

April 19, Introduction and Ch. 1, Contextual Theology
April 26, Chs. 2 and 3, Discourse, Time and Space
May 3, Ch. 4, Persons and Value
     Note: May 3 only, the class is 6:45 to 7:45pm.
May 10, Ch. 5, Consonance: Creation, Providence, and Relationality
May 17, Chs. 6 to end, Motivated Belief, Eschatology, and Understanding.

John Polkinghorne will be giving a lecture at Saint Thomas on Thursday, May 20, in the church at 6:30 p.m. (following the 5:30 p.m.Choral Evensong and the short mass): “Can a Scientist Pray?” The lecture is free and open to the public.
