This gathering of the Young Adults (roughly those in their 20s) includes the viewing of the great film by John Huston: “Wise Blood.” This film is based on Flannery O’Connor’s novel with the same title. It has her typical sideways, and twisted, way of looking at Christianity and getting underneath our settled comforts. The main character is a preacher who stands and shouts to people as he proclaims the Church of Christ without Christ. He has a strange affection for a mummy at the local MVSEVM. He ends up either a pathetic character or a strange sort of saint: his landlady can’t figure him out, and that makes her cross.
If you haven’t encountered Flannery O’Connor before, this is a good introduction. And if you have, this film is one of the rare instances of a novel turned to film in a way that is both faithful and good art at the same time.
We’ll start at 7pm. RSVP directly to Fr Austin. This group meets off-site, so you need to RSVP to get the details.
